“NSW households will need to brace themselves for the first impact of the Federal Government’s proposal to cut emissions, with electricity prices expected to rise steeply over the next few years.

The state’s pricing regulator, the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART) has today recommended that electricity prices rise by up to 62 per cent, including inflation, over three years. …

IPART says the biggest impact on the proposed price rises is the Federal Government’s recommended emissions trading scheme and increased network prices.

EnergyAustralia’s prices are expected to rise by 10 per cent in 2010-11, 16 per cent in 2011-12 and 25 per cent in 2012-13. These rises represent a total rise of 58 per cent over the three years.

IPART said that a typical EnergyAustralia customer will pay $727 more in 2013.

Integral Energy customers are expected to pay $554 more in 2013, with Country Energy customers expected to pay a further $893 in 2013.” “Electricity prices set to rise by 62% by 2013
